2013 World Golf Rankings: Tiger Woods closes in on Rory McIlroy at No. 1

With his second win of the season, Tiger is now in position to reclaim the top spot in the world rankings with a victory at Bay Hill.

Tiger Woods continued his pursuit of the No. 1 overall spot in the Official World Golf Rankings this weekend, picking up his 17th career WGC title and closing the gap on Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman appeared to get his game in order during Sunday’s final round, but Tiger had it all working throughout the week for a wire-to-wire victory. It’s the second win for Woods in just four PGA Tour appearances this season, continuing a two-year climb back towards No. 1.

Woods is now in position to reclaim that top ranking with a victory at Bay Hill, another course like Doral and Torrey where he’s extremely comfortable. It was at Bay Hill last year where he ended his winless drought, closing out the field on Sunday with a multi-shot cushion in the final round. With Rory on the sidelines until the Shell Houston Open, Tiger will control his fate in the rankings in Orlando.
