2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational postponed with Tiger Woods leading on Sunday

Sunday’s final round of the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational was postponed shortly after 4 p.m. ET with the course conditions at Bay Hill unplayable. The horn was blown at 2 p.m ET, and the PGA Tour immediately moved all the players and spectators off the course. Even the media had to flee the press tent, as high winds and severe lightning hit the Orlando area. It was initially believed that the storm, however severe, would blow through quickly but the damage done from the high wind and the amount of rain dumped on the course forced a delay until Monday.

The high winds destroyed some of the Tour’s grandstands and TV towers around the course, and the rain created pooling in the fairways almost instantly. The AP’s Doug Ferguson went out on the course after the worst of it had passed, and captured some of the wind and water damage:

Obviously, that washed out the bunkers and created water hazards in the middle of most fairways, making a Sunday resumption impossible even with more than three hours of daylight remaining. It was the end of a short but crazy day, which included Sergio Garcia taking a cut while standing backwards up in a tree.

There are still 44 players who must finish their rounds, including leader Tiger Woods, who has just started his final round. While he only got through two holes, Tiger has already extended his lead to three shots over playing partner Rickie Fowler and Keegan Bradley. In just his fifth event of the PGA Tour season, Tiger appears well on his way to his third victory -- a win that would push him to No. 1 in the world rankings for the first time since Halloween of 2010.

Tiger will get that chance to reclaim the top spot in the world rankings on Monday, teeing off No. 3 at 10 a.m. ET for the restart. Here’s a current snapshot of the leaders and some other notables early in the final round:
