The full field is now on the course at Doral for the first round of the 2013 WGC-Cadillac Championship, and the marquee group of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Luke Donald have made the turn. No one has yet to post a super low number on a course that’s among the easiest all year on Tour, and the top three players in the world are all hovering around even-par.
WGC-Cadillac Championship 2013 leaderboard: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy complete first 9 at Doral
Tiger Woods is back in the red at Doral, while Rory’s struggles continue on the front side of the WGC-Cadillac Championship.

Tiger Woods is the pacesetter in the group at 2-under after a rollercoaster front nine. Woods did not pick up his first par of the day until the fifth hole. He opened birdie-birdie but immediately gave it back with bogeys on his next two holes. He did get back in the red at 2-under with a birdies on the par-4 16th and 18th holes to move inside the top 10. Woods stuck his approach shot on the 18th and then steadily put his medium-length birdie putt right in the center of the cup to go out in 34.
While Woods is unquestionably the biggest star in the game, all the pre-tourney discussion centered on McIlroy, the No. 1 player in the world who is searching for his game early in the 2013 season. Rory made the turn in 2-over after carding three bogeys and a birdie on his first nine. It’s a no-cut WGC event so Rory will get a chance to play through the weekend unless he walks off for the second straight week. But he didn’t appear to set aside any concerns about his game in his first nine holes after the tumultuous past week.
With just 65 of the top players in the world, there should be some low numbers on the board by the end of the day. A quartet of players are currently tied for the lead at 4-under, including three top young Americans -- Keegan Bradley, Hunter Mahan, and Webb Simpson. The fourth is one of the lesser-known players in the field, Thaworn Wiratchant, a Thai superstar who’s been a regular at WGC events. Among the group of leaders, Simpson is off to the hottest start with four birdies in his first six holes. Here’s a current snapshot of the leaders and some other notables:
| Score | Player | Thru |
| -4 | Hunter Mahan | 7 |
| -4 | Keegan Bradley | 10 |
| -4 | Thaworn Wiratchant | 11 |
| -4 | Webb Simpson | 6 |
| -3 | Sergio Garcia | 7 |
| -2 | Phil Mickelson | 6 |
| -2 | Tiger Woods | 9 |
| 2 | Luke Donald | 9 |
| 2 | Rory McIlroy | 9 |
