The 2013 Masters begins from Augusta National on Thursday, and while the forecast is mostly clear skies and plenty of sun, thunderstorms and rain could impact the first two rounds.

Augusta National should be blanketed in sun throughout the Masters, but there is a chance of thunderstorms in the early rounds.

The tournament begins on Thursday, and while AccuWeather.com currently forecasts highs in the low-80s, there is the potential for severe thunderstorms. The forecast currently calls for a 67-percent chance of rain and 60-percent chance for thunderstorms. Wind could also be a factor with gusts as high as 17 mph.
The forecast for Friday is similar, as highs are expected to be in the low-80s with isolated thunderstorms again a possibility. Rain could be an issue on Friday as there is currently a 75-percent chance of precipitation. While rain could potentially force a delay, it would also soften up the course and make for optimal scoring conditions. A soft course in the first two rounds could lead to the winning score being three or even four shots lower.
Weather shouldn’t be much of a factor on the weekend, as the forecast currently calls for ideal conditions. The forecast for Saturday currently has highs in the upper-70s. Wind should not be a factor, as the forecast predicts 5 mph winds and a 13-percent chance of rain. Sunday’s forecast is similar, with highs in the low-80s, minimal wind and a 9-percent chance of precipitation.
While delays have occurred more than few times over the years, an entire Masters round has not been canceled since 1983, according to Augusta.com.
