The Tiger Woods Foundation made official on Monday what its namesake announced in December -- that it has assumed management and operational responsibilities of the PGA Tour’s Deutsche Bank Championship.

The second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the event takes place over Labor Day weekend at TPC Boston. As Woods noted in his annual holiday blog, his foundation -- which took the reins from IMG as of November 1, according to TWF championship director Eric Baldwin -- has served as the primary beneficiary of the tournament for the past ten years.
”The Deutsche Bank Championship has seen tremendous success thanks to the Boston community, the incredible fans and dedicated sponsors, and we are excited to play a bigger role in its management moving forward,” Greg McLaughlin, president and chief executive of the foundation, said in a statement on the new DBC website Monday.
Woods’ foundation adds the Deutsche Bank Championship to a growing portfolio of tour events that it runs. The foundation also manages the AT&T National, slated for June at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., and the unofficial World Challenge, which traditionally takes place in December at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Deutsche Bank has been the title sponsor of the Boston competition, which Woods won in 2006, since its inception in 2003. The tourney has generated more than $24 million for the Tiger Woods Foundation and local New England charities.
