Zurich Classic 2013 results: Billy Horschel fires final round 64 to win

Billy Horschel shot a final round 64 on Sunday to capture the 2013 Zurich Classic for his first career PGA Tour win. The 26-year-old’s eight-under round pushed him to 20-under for the tournament, one shot ahead of D.A. Points at the TPC Louisiana.

Horschel won the tournament thanks to a brilliant middle of his round Sunday, when he made birdie on six straight holes to jump out to the lead. It wasn’t an easy day as the tournament was twice delayed by rain and a bogey at No. 15 threatened to derail his title chases, but he bounced back with birdies at 16 and 18 to ensure he would win his first tournament.

Points also had a big Sunday, shooting seven-under and making a run late with five birdies on the back nine, but it wasn’t enough to catch Horschel. Kyle Stanley finished in third place and Bobby Gates checked in behind him. Lucas Glover could have had a chance to win the tournament, but he only managed a 71 on Sunday while the rest of the field was going low and had to settle for a fourth-place tie with Gates.

Horschel just missed winning the Shell Houston Open, where he finished second, and the Valero Texas Open, where he finished third. He wasn’t far off last week either, finishing ninth at the RBC Heritage, but this week he finally broke through and is now officially a PGA Tour tournament winner.
