The Players Championship 2013 payout: Winning share is $1.71 million
The Players Championship is the richest purse in golf, giving its winner a payout of $1.71 million - almost $700,000 more than the guy who finishes in second.

The big names turn out to The Players Championship for a reason: the winner at TPC-Sawgrass takes home the biggest payout of the golf season, a whopping $1.71 million as the tournament at Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida once again carries the largest purse of the season at a total of $9.5 million.
The purse and prize money has stayed the same since 2008, when Sergio Garcia took home the biggest payout in golf history. He’s close to the top of the pack again, entering the final day tied with Tiger Woods and David Lingmerth. Woods is trying to cement his status as the top earner on tour: despite only participating in seven events on the young season, he’s made $4.13 million, nearly a million dollars more than Brandt Snedeker, his closest competition. He’s likely to extend that lead no matter where he finishes on the final day

It’ll probably be a tight day at the top of the leaderboard, and it’s a little bit more interesting when you remember that the guy who comes out on top wins $700,000 more than the guy who comes in second. Although don’t feel too bad for the guy who comes in second, because they still make a bit over a million dollars to play golf for four days. Not a bad haul.
Of course, that’s not what the payouts will end up looking like - last year, four players tied for second earned $627,000 apiece - over $1 million less than the winner Matt Kuchar got.
