Tiger Woods shared a laugh with good friend Fred Couples after the 53-year-old captain of the 2013 Presidents Cup bested two members of his team by one stroke in the first round of the Memorial Tournament.
Tiger Woods loses to Fred Couples in first round at Memorial

“We had a good time,” Woods, who drew Couples and Keegan Bradley for the first two rounds of this week’s tourney, told Golf Channel after carding a 1-under 71 on Thursday.
“We had our spells when we were having a lot of fun and had our spells when we got a little quiet out there,” said Woods, who believed he played better than his score indicated in the start to his Memorial title defense. “It had [its] moments.”
Woods, who will begin Friday’s second round six shots back of Charl Schwartzel, the leader of the pack at 7-under, never really got much going all day. He made his first of five birdies on the par-4 sixth and finished with a disappointing bogey on the par-4 18th.

“The greens were a little bit tough this afternoon,” said Woods, who sounded rueful about not earning an early morning tee time. “I don’t think there were too many low scores this afternoon. [The greens] were a little crusty and a little bumpy.”
The Woods-Couples-Bradley trio got that cherished morning start on Friday, when they were slated to go off the 10th tee at 8:26 a.m. ET.
