The leaders faltered during the third round of the Wells Fargo Championship on Saturday, as Phil Mickelson finished the day with three bogeys and a double bogey, but still managed to keep a share of the lead with one remaining. After entering Saturday with a two-stroke lead, Mickelson’s score of 73 allowed room for Nick Watney to make up the deficit and create a tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Mickelson, Watney and George McNeil each entered the third round following strong starts to the tournament; however, each had their worst round of the tournament thus far, and allowed the rest of the field to close the gap between themselves and the leaders.
Among those that closed in on the leaders was Australian John Senden, who finished the day with six birdies and just one bogey, to earn the best score of the day at five strokes under par. At six-under par through three rounds, Senden is now one of nine golfers within two strokes of the lead with one round left to play.
Also in the hunt is Rory McIlroy, although the second-ranked golfer in the world struggled on Saturday, finishing with a 73 scorecard. Despite his struggles in the third round, McIlroy is in a tie for tenth and three strokes behind Watney and Mickelson for the lead.
Coverage of Sunday’s final round from the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina is scheduled to begin on Golf Channel at 1 p.m. ET before switching to CBS Sports at 3 p.m.
