Tiger Woods probably won’t be in first place at the end of his first round at The Players Championship, but he’s certainly gotten himself towards the top of the pack on a day everybody’s left looking up at Roberto Castro.

Tiger Woods birdied four holes in a row around the turn, which has him tied for fourth. A double bogey has Phil Mickelson a little bit lower down the leaderboard.

Woods, currently on No. 14, didn’t have the best start to the day, birdieing just one of his first eight holes -- all right, but not the way people have been playing so far at TPC-Sawgrass. Then, he heated up with birdies on holes nine, 10, 11 and 12, and now he’s in a tie for fourth place with Steve Stricker, Webb Simpson and three other golfers.
Phil Mickelson isn’t scoring as well, at just 1-under on the day, mainly due to a disastrous double bogey at the par-4 14th. He’s almost done with his round, currently playing No. 16.
Castro, a 27-year-old Georgia Tech grad playing The Players for the first time, shot a 63, with seven birdies and an eagle, putting him three strokes clear of second place golfers Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson.
