U.S. Open schedule 2013: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott the obvious highlight

Let’s just get this out of the way: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Adam Scott are paired together for the first two rounds of the U.S. Open.

They’re the three best golfers in the world right now, per the world rankings, and they’re all meshed into one trio instead of spread out amongst the field. This makes things nice and easy on us, the viewers, telling us when we need to tune in. If you want a summary of what’s going on the first two days at Merion, that’s a good start.

They tee off on Thursday, 1:14 p.m at the first tee, and on Friday, 7:44 a.m. from the tenth tee. There, now you’re ready.

However, it should be noted there are, like, 150-ish golfers elsewhere in the field, and some of them are involved in cool pairings too.

Only 16 men have ever been the world’s No. 1 golfer, and three of them are paired together: Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, and Martin Kaymer. Donald and Westwood are still in the top 15 of the world rankings, but Kaymer has fallen off a bit, failing to win an event since 2011. Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk are each former U.S. Open winners, and they’re joined by Zach Johnson, who won the 2007 Masters.

Phil Mickelson is paired with Steve Stricker and Keegan Bradley, all three of which can do damage. Sergio Garcia is paired well, well away from Tiger Woods, teeing up with three-time major-winner Padraig Harrington and 2009 British Open winner Stewart Cink.
