AT&T National 2013: Tiger Woods will miss tournament with elbow strain

The No. 1 player in the world is not having a good month. He will miss his own tournament with an elbow strain.

Tiger Woods’ bad month continues, as the golfer will miss the 2013 AT&T National with a left elbow strain, per the noted golf enthusiast’s official website.

“I have been advised to take a few weeks off, rest and undergo treatment. I’ll be ready to go for the British Open, and I’m looking forward to playing at Muirfield. I would like to extend my regrets to AT&T, our sponsors and the fans in the Washington, D.C., area. The AT&T National means a lot to me and my foundation. It’s especially difficult not defending at my own tournament. It’s going to be a great event, and I look forward to being there to provide my support.”

Woods hosts the AT&T National, so things will be a little awkward when he won’t be playing in the tournament he set up himself. His elbow has been a concern since last week’s U.S. Open, where Woods was visibly cringing and shaking his arm after shooting out of the rough. That performance was one to forget for Woods, as he shot 13-over par and was a non-factor over the last two days.

Woods has had an incredible run in 2013, with four wins on the PGA Tour so far, but the major victory continues to elude him. He hasn’t won a major since 2008. His latest injury is a big enough concern that he’s pulling out of his own tournament, although it does give him more downtime to rest up for the British Open in mid-July.
