Zach Johnson got his title defense off to a strong start Thursday, jumping out to an early lead at TPC Deere Run. But he’s not the only person scoring well, and he has to golf with the most successful player at the John Deere Classic, Steve Stricker, in his group and just a few strokes behind him.
John Deere Classic 2013: Tee times, TV schedule for Friday
Zach Johnson started off strong to defend his title, but it’s early, everybody’s scoring well, and perhaps his strongest competition is in his threesome.

Johnson, a native Iowan, sits at 7-under and is hoping for his first win of the year, with his highest finish of the year a third-place performance at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. He’s tied with Camilo Villegas, and they’re followed by three golfers at 6-under, most notably Brendon De Jonge. Seven others are at 5-under, including Boo Weekley, who bested Johnson at the Crowne Plaza event, and Kevin Streelman, who tied for second at The Players Championship. And Stricker, who won the three previous John Deere Classics before Johnson’s victory last year, headlines a pack at 4-under.
Here are the tee times, with Stricker and Johnson teeing off at 1:45 p.m. Eastern, joined by Davis Love III. The event will be broadcast on The Golf Channel from 3-6 p.m. Eastern, with coverage streamed online.
