Brandt Snedeker started the second round in a tie for third at 3-under, a prime contender to stick at the top of the leaderboard through the weekend at the British Open. But it’s all gone so wrong, so very wrong for Snedeker, who has played a three-hole stretch in 5-over on the back nine. The implosion can be summed up by perhaps the worst putt you will see at a major championship this year:

The irony, of course, is that Snedeker is widely regarded as one of, if not the best putter in the world. Blasting that bunny resulted in a double-bogey putt that was twice as long as the bogey putt, which unsurprisingly burned the edge:
That four-putt also sums up just how quick these greens are running at a baked out Muirfield. A simple lip out runs nearly 10 feet away from the cup. The winds off the Scottish coast, the Muirfield undulations, and the hardpan have combined for a brutal mix where even-par on Friday will be a good score, and anything under par will be great.
Snedeker is now 3-over on the day with a triple, two doubles, and two good old-fashioned regular bogeys. Another victim of Muirfield’s concrete putting surfaces, the three-hole unraveling coming into the house may have wiped out his shot at a first major before we’ve even hit the midpoint at Muirfield.
But at least the four-putt sequence allowed us to put together this bit of Snedeker dance giffery at his expense.
