Vijay Singh and Dustin Johnson were blistering in the early going in Ontario and both are 6-under in the third round to come within a few strokes of the top of the leaderboard at the Canadian Open.

Vijay Singh and Dustin Johnson are 6-under on the day at the Canadian Open, but they’ve still got a ways to go to catch Hunter Mahan.

Hunter Mahan still holds first at 13-under, with John Merrick two strokes back and Bubba Watson in third place at 9-under. Singh and Johnson are now tied for fourth at 8-under, where they’re joined by Kyle Stanley, Patrick Reed, and Aaron Baddeley.
Singh was unbelievable to start, shooting 4-under on the first three holes, with two birdies sandwiching an eagle on the par-5 second hole at Glen Abbey. A few birdies later and he was just three strokes behind Mahan, but he got into trouble, double-bogeying the par-3 15th. Johnson has been more consistent, with six birdies.
Singh has three major titles on his resume and was once the No. 1 player in the world following his 2004 PGA Championship victory, but he hasn’t won since 2008 and is now No. 154 in the world golf rankings. He’s only finished in the top 25 once this year and that was a 20th place finish at the Sony Open in January. Johnson is 25th in the world rankings and won his first event of the year, the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, but he’s fallen off since, as the big driver has missed the cut three times against two top 10 finishes.
The top three golfers have yet to tee off, with Mahan hitting the course at 1:30 p.m. ET.
