Hunter Mahan announces birth of daughter after withdrawing in lead at RBC Canadian Open

Hunter Mahan began the weekend in the lead at the 2013 RBC Canadian Open, going for his first victory since last April’s Shell Houston Open. But his final 36 holes at Glen Abbey were cut short on Saturday, when Mahan withdrew from the tournament after news that his wife, Kandi, was in labor. Mahan received word while he was on the range, warming up just moments before the start of his third round. He promptly jetted out of Ontario to Dallas, where he and the former Cowboys cheerleader reside.

On Sunday morning, a little less than 24 hours after leaving Canada, Mahan sent out the birth announcement via Twitter:

Given that he was leading and a good bet to stay at or near the top of the leaderboard, it’s one of the crazier WDs you’ll ever see on Tour. But at least it happened this week as opposed to just 7 days ago...when Mahan would have been stranded across the Atlantic Ocean and about to play in Sunday’s final group at the British Open.
