2013 Barclays: Tee times and pairings for Thursday’s first round

With 125 of the best players in the world teeing it up, there are a few notable first-round pairings at The Barclays.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The first tournament of the FedExCup Playoffs begins on Thursday with the first round of The Barclays from Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. With 125 of the best players in the world ready to tee it up, The Barclays has a major-caliber field. That means there will be plenty of notable groupings in the first two rounds.

The tee times are based on the FedExCup point standings, meaning points-leader Tiger Woods will be paired with Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker. Kuchar is second in points while Snedeker is third. The three will tee off at 8:06 a.m. ET. Phil Mickelson, who is fourth in points, will play with Bill Haas and Billy Horschel in one of the afternoon groups, with a tee time of 1:06 p.m.

Justin Rose will be joined by Henrik Stenson and 20-year-old Jordan Spieth in his group, pairing three of the hottest players in the world. Stenson and Spieth have been playing especially well as of late while Rose is still riding the high of his victory at the U.S. Open. Keegan Bradley begins the week 10th in points and he will play with Adam Scott and Boo Weekly on Thursday.

The playoff field will be narrowed by 25 players following The Barclays and while the current contenders don’t need to worry about securing their spot for the next round, it should be an interesting tournament as players attempt to position themselves for the $10 million winner’s prize.
