Starting last Sunday night, much of the golf world spent the week speculating over whether Tiger Woods would be healthy enough to play in the second leg of the 2013 FedExCup. It appears that Woods, who was last seen crumbling to the ground with back pain while still on his way to a second-place finish, will give it a go at the Deutsche Bank Championship. It was a fluid situation at the start of the week, and Tiger then withdrew from good friend Notah Begay’s charity tournament on Wednesday. But caddie Joe LaCava was out scouting TPC Boston yesterday and Tiger was on scene Thursday morning getting in some work.
Deutsche Bank Championship 2013 odds: Despite back injury, Tiger Woods still the favorite
The PGA Tour’s postseason swings up to Boston, where the top three players in the world and the favorites this week will play together in the first two rounds.

Even with all the injury concerns, Tiger, as always, is the favorite in Boston. He’s still No. 1 in the FedExCup standings and he’ll remain No. 1 in the world rankings for a long time, regardless of how this season ends. Tiger begins the week at 13/2, edging out Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson for most favored status. Those three, who are also 1-2-3 in the FedExCup standings and world rankings, are grouped together for the first two days in Boston. Based on recent form -- Scott’s win in New York and Phil’s and Tiger’s Sunday charge -- they could be paired together over the long weekend as well. They should also all be right there in Atlanta at the end of the month-long postseason. It’s the power group of the playoffs and they tee off at 8:40 a.m. on Friday.
The Deutsche Bank Championship is the traditional second stop in the four event postseason, and TPC Boston is prone to yielding low scores. There are rounds in the low 60s out there, and the winning number can inch towards 20-under. That allows for any player in the top 100 to go low and make a big move up the standings to hang on and get to Chicago. While there are longshots by the oddsmakers’ standards, any of the top 100 could contend late on Sunday, when the playoff field is cut down to 70.
