Tiger Woods, coming off an ugly 65th place finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship, is back as the favorite for the third leg of the 2013 FedExCup in Chicago this week. Woods will almost always be the favorite in any tournament he enters, regardless of his recent form or the competition.

The PGA Tour playoffs resume after a week away, and Tiger Woods starts the week right where he always is -- as the favorite.

Tiger’s had a strong season, adding five more wins to his chase of record holder Sam Snead (Tiger’s now three back at 79), but the second half of the year has certainly been a bit more inconsistent. Aside from his win at Firestone, he’s put together several average, at best, rounds in the last two majors and the FedExCup.
But there’s Tiger again, an 11/2 favorite ahead of recent FedExCup winners Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson. Scott and Stenson will be paired with the No. 1 player in the world through the first two days at Conway Farms, with the Tour continuing the tradition of putting the top three in the FedExCup standings together.
Stenson finally dethroned Woods from the top spot in FedExCup points with his win in Boston, although Woods is a slim (by FEC standards) 14 points back. Both Stenson and Scott are 12/1, while Phil Mickelson rounds out the first group of favorites at 14/1. All four of those players will make it through to Atlanta as part of the final 30 in the TOUR Championship, but there are some other big names on the bubble.
The most notable player fighting to get in the final 30 is Rory McIlroy, last year’s back-to-back winner in the FedExCup. It was at the BMW where he completed his remarkable run, winning three times (one major, two FEC events) in just over a month. Now Rory is No. 41 in the standings and will need to make a significant push to get inside the top 30 to show up at East Lake. Despite his winless season and tenuous position in the postseason, Rory is still 20/1 alongside Justin Rose and Steve Stricker.
