At the core, Tiger Woods is a huge nerd. He constantly yells at his golf ball, or himself, in the dorkiest ways. And unfortunately for Woods, the cameras and mics follow all his shots so every utterance is audible and public. Sometimes it’s an innocuous but annoying “One yard!” and other times there is colorful language which prompts the admonishment of stuffy old golf commentators.
Tiger Woods screams at his ball to ‘Get Down!’ at the BMW Championship
It’s that rare instance where Tiger’s ball listened to his attempt at steering a shot.

At the BMW, Tiger belted out one of the more urgent exhortations you’ll hear from him, repeatedly shouting at his ball to “Get down!” as his approach shot went into the fifth green. It’s not as funny as the “Ohhhhh, Tigerrrr!” self-denunciations, but I still chuckle every time Tiger nerdily yells at his ball, just like any other weekend hacker:
In this instance, the ball listened and nestled hole high just several feet from the cup. Woods cleaned up the birdie, his fourth in the last six holes, to get to 4-under early in the week at the BMW Championship. The round, so far, is certainly an improvement over his middling play last time he was out on Tour at the Deutsche Bank Championship. He’s four shots back of the red hot leader, Brandt Snedeker.
But if Tiger’s ball obeys him for the rest of the weekend, he’ll be right back in the top spot of the FedExCup Standings (he’s only 14 points back of No. 1 Henrik Stenson) heading into the season’s final event in Atlanta next week.
