UPDATE: Furyk makes history, shoots 59 with birdie on his last hole.
2013 BMW Championship leaderboard: Jim Furyk on record pace
Jim Furyk knocked down nine birdies and an eagle in the first 13 holes of his round on Friday at the BMW Championship.

If Jim Furyk keeps up Friday’s pace at the 2013 BMW Championship, he could soon become the owner of one of golf’s greatest records. At 10-under par through 14 holes, Furyk is within reach of breaking the PGA record score of a 59 in an 18-hole round.
Furyk was 11-under par after nine birdies and an eagle through the first 13 holes, but a bogey on the fifth hole set him back from his record pace. Four pars to finish his second round of the tournament would still net Furyk a 61 on the day and a new course record. He will need three birdies in four holes to break the PGA record and just two birdies to become the sixth to ever shoot a 59 round.
Furyk struggled in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, finishing one-over on the day with two double bogeys. That performance landed Furyk in a tie for 39th on the leaderboard, but his strong showing on Friday has launched him into second place -- three strokes behind tournament leader Brandt Snedeker.
