2013 TOUR Championship leaderboard: Tiger Woods opens with 4 pars, Jordan Spieth shares lead

The full 30-man field is now on the course at the 2013 TOUR Championship, and a set of players have settled in the lead at 2-under. East Lake’s greens are rolling fast on Thursday, more than a 12 on the stimpmeter and we’re not seeing the low and mid-60s numbers that dotted the leaderboards at the prior three FedExCup playoffs events.

There are seven players currently at 2-under, including standout rookie Jordan Spieth. He’s had an astounding first season, starting without a card and stringing together sponsor’s exemptions, becoming the first teenager to win on Tour in more than 80 years, making the Presidents Cup, and now challenging for the FedExCup. He started 13th in the standings, and will jump into the projected top five if he keeps this up in his opening round.

Dustin Johnson, who jumped back-and-forth over the cut line on Monday at the BMW, snuck in at the last moment as the 30th and final player. He was out in the first group of the day and is now tied for the lead. DJ has had an underwhelming season after starting it off with a win in Maui, but his immense talent is enough to keep him in, and possibly win, the most exclusive event of the year.

Tiger Woods was the last player out on the course, teeing off with Henrik Stenson at 2 p.m. ET. The top two players in the FEC standings have the inside track to win the grand prize $10 million pot at the end of the weekend. Woods has had an inconsistent postseason, but he’s started this round with four straight pars to hover just near the lead. With only 30 players, there’s going to be some bunching. It’s unlikely Tiger, or anyone else, runs away with it this week if these green speeds continue. But again, Woods doesn’t need to run away, or win, in order to capture his third FedExCup.

UPDATE: It’s been downhill for Tiger, and he’s grinding just to stay out of last place.
