2013 Deutsche Bank Championship leaderboard: Henrik Stenson surges to lead

Henrik Stenson is the new leader at the 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Mass., after a slow start for Sergio Garcia on Monday tightened up the top of the leaderboard. Garcia’s final round began with a pair of early bogeys that dropped him out of the top spot, but he recovered and recaptured a share of the lead with a birdie on Hole 5.

Garcia briefly shared the lead with Stenson who then sank three consecutive birdies to earn control of the lead. The Sweden-native surged into contention with a 63 score on Saturday and is projected to be second in the FedEx Cup standings if he can earn a tournament victory.

The tournament has turned out to be a tough one for the stars of the tour as Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson all erased any slim, remaining hope for an impressive comebacks with slow starts to their final rounds.

After starting his day with a birdie to move to -7 in the tournament, Woods hit three bogeys over a four hole span to fall out of the top 50. Mickelson experienced similar struggles with three consecutive bogeys to start his round, although he has since recovered to have an even scorecard through 15 holes.

With three birdies on his first four holes, Robert Castro was alone at the top of the leaderboard for a brief period before a bogey on Hole 6. A victory would be the first PGA Tour win in Castro’s career.
