Charl Schwartzel, playing back home on Saturday at the Volvo Golf Champions in Durban, hit, quite simply, one of the most insane golf shots you will ever see. It looked like Schwartzel was in jail, his ball settling on the road completely off the hole with dense trees obscuring any sign of the route he was supposed to take.

Undeterred, the South African pulled an iron from his bag and picked it clean off the concrete. That’s all well and good, but he still had no real sense of where it was going. The blind shot, however, nearly went right into the cup, leaving a ballmark just a foot or so from the hole and settling a few short feet past the cup. Here’s the video of what has to be one of the more miraculous recovery shots in years (via Golf Channel):
That’s as absurd as it gets -- off the hardpan, blind, to just a couple feet after nearly sinking it.
Schwartzel is inside the top 10 at the Volvo Champions event, and if he has any kind of that mix of skill and luck in the final round, he’ll be right at the top of the leaderboard by the end of Sunday’s round.
