Fred Couples has been on the receiving end of some lucky breaks during his career, the most famous occurring when his ball hung up on the bank of a little creek at Augusta National Golf Club in 1992. On Friday over in Hawaii, however, Couples caught one of the craziest and luckiest bounces you’ll see this year.
Fred Couples hits lava rocks, gets lucky bounce and makes eagle in Hawaii
Boom Boom gets a great bounce.

Standing in the fairway of the par-5 seventh hole at Hualalai Golf Club, Couples decided to go for the green in two with a blind approach shot from behind some lava rocks. It did not start well. The 54-year old immediately lost his ball out to the left, the approach rocketing off the target line and headed for OB or an unplayable lie.
But given that this is Couples, the coolest and luckiest guy in golf, the wayward shot smashed into more lava rocks, which fortuitously guided his ball onto the green and down towards the cup (video via Champions Tour):
Couples would not waste the bit of luck, and canned the eight footer for eagle to boost a 31 on the front nine. He’s now two shots back in the Champions Tour season opener.
Perhaps a good omen for his Seahawks.
