The 2014 PGA Tour has gotten off to a relatively quiet start, but that has already started to change this week. With one of the sport’s brightest young stars in the lead and two of the biggest names in the field, there are plenty of reasons to watch the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open on Saturday.

Can Jordan Spieth hang onto the lead? Can Tiger Woods make a run? Will Phil Mickelson’s back make it through the third round? All of those questions will be answered on Saturday and viewers will be able to watch a lot of it live with extended television coverage.

Nothing left to prove
This is a tournament Tiger Woods owns, but from which he gains little at this point in his decorated career. Jordan Spieth opens the day with the lead at 10-under. He jumped 45 spots up the leaderboard on Friday, thanks to a 9-under 63. The 20-year-old could add another impressive note to his resume if he’s able to hold on and win at Torrey Pines. He’ll have to overcome plenty of competition to do so with 19 players within five strokes of the lead. Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are further down the leaderboard and may need to go low on Saturday in order to have a shot in the final round. Mickelson is currently dealing with some back issues. He sits at 2-under and tees off at 10:45 a.m. ET if he is able to play. Woods is 1-under through 36 holes and tees off at 11:15 a.m.
With the tournament heading to the weekend, there will be additional television with Golf Channel and CBS combining for five hours of live coverage. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. on Golf Channel, allowing viewers to watch some of the early action, including Mickelson and Woods. The broadcast then switches over to CBS at 3 p.m. Spieth, playing in the final group of the day, tees off at 12:45 p.m., so nearly all of his round occurs during the broadcast window.
In addition to the television coverage, there are also online streams available. Golf Channel will provide a simulcast of its broadcast on Golf Live Extra. CBS Sports will offer viewers two streams. A featured hole stream runs from 12 to 6 p.m. with a simulcast of the broadcast available from 3 to 6 p.m. Radio coverage will be available on PGA Tour Radio from 1 to 6 p.m.
