Kevin Stadler’s golf ball gets stuck in a tree ... again

How does this happen two weeks in a row?

Jeff Gross

For the second straight week, Kevin Stadler’s golf ball went on adventure in the local flora. It was this time last week that Stadler’s ball miraculously stuck to a Scottsdale cactus in mid-air, two needles plunging into the ball that was left behind for his own safety. Stadler was playing in the final group that day, and the cactus ball resulted in a double-bogey that nearly derailed his first shot at a PGA Tour win. The baby Walrus rebounded, however, to edge Bubba Watson and get his first win and a spot in the Masters alongside his dad (the first ever father-son duo playing at Augusta).

The stakes are much lower this Sunday, but Stadler’s ball again got stuck in some of the local plant life. This time is was tree alongside a Pebble Beach fairway, and a caddy in his group bounded up the trunk to shake it free for Stadler.

Stadler’s caddy, as was noted on the CBS broadcast, is even more hefty than last week’s winner so the structural integrity of the tree would not have survived his attempt to retrieve it. Thankfully, there was another looper to help out and get it back -- something that was not an option a week ago:

Next week we’re headed to the much safer Riviera, but we’ll see what Stadler can find in LA.
