Valspar Championship 2014: Tee times, TV schedule for Saturday’s round

The Valspar Championship continues on Saturday. Will Robert Garrigus be able to hold onto his lead?

Sam Greenwood

Following an eventful first two days, the Valspar Championship will continue on Saturday with the third round. The course has proven to be a difficult task thus far; scores under par are a rarity. Robert Garrigus shot the low round of the day on Friday with his 5-under 66 dropping him to 7-under overall and into the lead. He’ll begin play on Saturday with a three-stroke lead.

Just how up-and-down has the play been this week? Garrigus’ 66 in the second round was 24 strokes better than the worst round of the day. That round belonged to John Daly, who shot a 90, but he was far from the only player struggling. Only 21 of the 84 players who made the cut are under par. Of those, only six are 3-under or better. With the Copperhead coarse proving to be a challenge to navigate, we could see heavy movement on the leaderboard of the weekend.

Garrigus has avoided major issues and is the only player who shot in the 60s in both the first and second rounds. A big reason for his success has been his play on the par-5s. The long-hitting Garrigus has made hay on those holes; he has birdies on all eight par-5s he’s played this week. If he’s able to continue that success during the weekend, he appears well on the way to the second PGA Tour win of his career.

He will play in the final pairing on Saturday, joined by Kevin Na. Na will begin the round in second place at 4-under, three strokes off the lead. Pat Perez, Justin Rose, Matt Every and Matteo Manassero are 3-under heading into the weekend. Rose and Perez play in the second-to-last group, and Manassero plays with Every.

Players will start hitting the course at 7:40 a.m. ET with the final groups teeing off after 2 p.m. There will be five hours of live television coverage with the window allowing viewers to follow all of the lead groups. The broadcast will begin at 1 p.m. on Golf Channel, where it will remain until 2 p.m. Coverage will then shift to NBC from 2 to 6 p.m. In addition to the main broadcast, Golf Channel will provide spotlight coverage of the Snake Pit (Nos. 15-17) from 2 to 5 p.m.

Viewers will have the ability to watch the live coverage online, thanks to a simulcast from NBC Sports Live Extra. The online stream will run from 1 to 6 p.m. Here is a complete look at the coverage and the tee sheet for Saturday.
