Justin Rose chunks what is probably the worst golf shot of his career

What the hell just happened to Justin Rose?

Sam Greenwood

Justin Rose, reigning U.S. Open champion and the No. 7 player in the world, just hit the kind of golf shot you’d see some 15-handicapper chop on a weekend at your local muni.

The Englishman got juuuuust a little behind the ball and hit a standard chunk from the middle of the fairway at the Valspar Championship. Rose was 99 yards out from the hole, and while attempting a simple wedge shot, he was only able to advance the ball 47 yards up the ninth fairway (via EyeOnGolf):

Fortunately, it wasn’t the stone cold shank we saw Henrik Stenson hit last week, when the No. 3 player in world rocketed his ball off the course and into some bushes also using a wedge.

Rose went on to make a bogey at the 9th hole, and is still in it at Innisbrook, just three shots back as he makes the turn. Unless he wins, though, that will probably be the only shot he makes today that people remember.
