With a field loaded with talent in advance of the Masters next month, this weekend at Bay Hill was supposed to feature many of the best in the world going head-to-head. Instead, it turned into the Adam Scott show. At 14-under, Scott tied the 36-hole tournament record and will be the focus of the television coverage on Saturday.

Television coverage may have taken a hit with no Tiger and no Phil, but Adam Scott has more than made up for it with some world-class golf.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational typically draws one of the best pre-Masters fields of the year. That was the case again this year, even without Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, but Scott’s play has made the field a non-story. Instead, the attention has been on the reigning Masters champion who has displayed world-class form as he prepares to defend his Masters title. Scott is well on his way to capturing the No. 1 ranking in the world and is doing it in impressive fashion. While some players have struggled at Bay Hill, Scott’s precision ball striking allowed him to challenge the record books. His 62 on Thursday was good enough to tie the course record and his 14-under through 36 holes also tied a tournament record.
With Scott opening the weekend seven strokes ahead of the field, the broadcast figures to be focused on his play, rather than the leaderboard landscape. That could change if Scott falters or another player goes very low, but the way he’s hit the ball thus far, it’s hard to imagine that happening.
There are more than five hours of television coverage planned for Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET on Golf Channel. Coverage will continue on Golf Channel until 2 p.m., when it will switch to NBC. With Scott scheduled to tee off at 1:50 p.m., nearly his entire round will occur during the NBC broadcast window. In addition to the main coverage, Golf Channel will run spotlight coverage of Nos. 16, 17 and 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. The entire broadcast can be watched online, thanks to a live simulcast stream from NBC Sports LiveExtra. The simulcast won’t be the only online stream; PGATour.com will offer a featured hole stream of Nos. 12, 16 and 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. That will be viewers’ only option to watch the players scheduled to tee off in the early morning.
