WGC Cadillac Championship 2014 leaderboard: Tiger Woods sputters, Patrick Reed running away with it

Sunday at Doral has become a drama-free cruise for Patrick Reed, who has taken a four-shot lead while big-name stars like Jason Dufner and Tiger Woods have crumbled.

A Sunday full of hype at Doral is quickly turning into a runaway for Patrick Reed, who made the turn at the Blue Monster with a four-shot lead.

Reed started the day up two on Jason Dufner and Hunter Mahan, and three ahead of Tiger Woods. While Reed has won twice in the last nine months, he’s the least-accomplished player of that group but clearly, despite his lower profile, the one with the best current form. The Augusta State ace can probably lock up a Ryder Cup spot with yet another win, a lucrative WGC title, and he birdied three of his first four holes to quickly set aside the big-name chasers. At 6-under, he leads Dustin Johnson and Jamie Donaldson by four with nine holes to play.

Tiger’s attempt to put a scare in the 54-hole leader was rinsed away by the third hole, his second straight Sunday he put one in the drink on No. 3 to end his chances at a comeback early in the round. Woods’ back is clearly bothering him again, and after hitting fans with two of his first three drives, and finding the water, the world No. 1 promptly played his way out of this by the sixth hole. Tiger made bogeys at No. 3, 4 and 6 to tumble to 2-over while Reed only pushed the leading number upward. A brutal three-putt at the gettable par-5 eighth put a bow on Tiger’s ugly outward 39, and at this point, he’s just trying to get in the clubhouse without further injuring his back. An awkward lie in a fairway bunker at the sixth hole forced Tiger to reach for the back, and it looked like we would get a WD for the second straight Sunday:

Mahan, meanwhile, has sputtered to 1-over and Dufner can’t make a putt from outside two feet. Dufner seemed like the biggest threat to chase down Reed after the way he played on Saturday, but he has no confidence or ability with the putter right now and his playing partner is obviously comfortable watching those around him crumble.

Doral is the kind of place where a player can quickly post a big number, or put together a string of double bogeys. But the way Reed is playing right now, it’s hard to see anyone, even with the talent of a Dustin Johnson, chasing down the leader with nine holes to go. And despite those bogey threats, it will be shocking to see him come back to the field. Here’s the current top of the leaderboard:
