2014 Shell Houston Open: Tee times, pairings for Sunday’s round

Matt Kuchar has a four-stroke lead heading into the final round. Can he hang on for his first win of 2014?

Scott Halleran

For the second straight week, Matt Kuchar will tee off on Sunday in the final group. He came up short last week at the Texas Open, but enters the final round of the Shell Houston Open with a four stroke lead. He carded the low round of the day on Saturday and anything similar on Sunday would likely send him to Augusta National with his first win of the season.

Kuchar opens the final round at 15-under, four strokes ahead of Cameron Tringale and Sergio Garcia. The three will form the final pairing. Garcia was the 36-hole leader, but struggled in the third round, shooting a 1-over 73. Tringale may have the most to play. He’s currently not part of the Masters field, but would seal a bid to Augusta if he’s able to erase Kuchar’s lead and come away with the win.

The three are scheduled to take their turn at the first tee at 10:30 a.m. ET. Kuchar and Garcia won’t be the only notable names playing in the late groups. Rickie Fowler jumped up the leaderboard with a 68 in the third round and is now tied for fifth place at 8-under. He’ll play with Matt Jones and Ben Curtis in the final round, teeing off in the second-to-last group.

Phil Mickelson is 6-under through three rounds and he’ll hit the course at 10 a.m. The pulled muscle he suffered last week hasn’t appeared to have a negative impact on his game this week. Assuming he’s able to get through the final round without a setback, he’s in solid position heading into the Masters. Mickelson will play with Retief Goosen and Andres Romero.

Inclement weather is expected to hit later in the day, so tee times were moved up in an effort to get the final round in. Here is a complete look at the updated tee sheet. All times Eastern.
