Jimmy Walker’s tee shot hits a bird in mid-flight at Colonial

A bird gets in the way of Jimmy Walker’s golf ball at the Crowne Plaza Invitational.

Jimmy Walker is tied for fourth and in the hunt at the 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational, and the Texan nearly took down some local wildlife on his way into the clubhouse on Friday. Walker, who went off first tee late in the afternoon, struck a bird with his tee shot on his penultimate hole at Colonial (you can make your birdie joke here).

The 17th a shorter par-4, so he took iron off the tee and popped it out and up over the fairway. At first glance, it looked like the ball came close to hitting the bird but just missed. But on the replay, narrated by the Golf Channel duo of Peter Oosterhuis and Nick Faldo, it’s clear the shot grazed the bird and the ball ended up off in the rough at the 17th. Despite the slight carom off into the rough, Walker would get his approach shot up onto the front of the green and two-putt to walk off with a par. He’s 5-under and just two shots off the lead after 36 holes.
