As we mentioned earlier this week, the USGA likes to have some fun with the groupings at the U.S. Open. They put the Masters Champions together. They make groups of players with a common-sounding names. They even like to group people together that have similar physical characteristics, like, say, a bit of a paunch.
Shane Lowry calls U.S. Open’s ‘fat guys’ tee time a ‘mockery’
Well it seems that one of those such groups has upset Irish golfer Shane Lowry. According to this article from Irish writer Brian Keogh, Lowry thinks his group, which includes “larger” players Kevin Stadler and Brendon De Jonge, is a “mockery.”
Stadler also told Golf Channel’s Jason Sobel that he thought the USGA was “mean and insensitive.” The Zimbabewean, de Jonge, didn’t seem too bothered by and it and laughed it off to Sobel.
It will be interesting if this ends up going somewhere. Maybe the USGA will have to look at how they group players moving forward.
