Quicken Loans National purse: Winner will earn $1.17 million of total $6.5 million payout

Justin Rose has almost $35 million more in career earnings than Shawn Stefani, who would earn almost as much as his entire previous combined winnings with a victory at the Quicken Loans National.

The Quicken Loans National may be without its tournament host on Sunday, Tiger Woods opting to jet off after missing the cut on Friday evening. While Tiger won’t be there to present the trophy, as he did last year to Bill Haas when he was out injured, the leaders are still playing for a million-plus winner’s check as they come down the back nine at Congressional. The winner will earn $1,170,000 of the total $6.5 million purse.

Justin Rose and Shawn Stefani are currently tied for the lead at 4-under. Both have made a nice living playing golf, but they’re in two pretty different positions in terms of career earnings. Rose has been cashing huge checks on the PGA Tour for several years now, consistently placing inside the top 10 and winning five times on the PGA Tour and six times on the Euro Tour. His career earnings are $36,448,326, so this would be a nice winner’s check but hardly life-changing or career-defining.

Stefani, on the other hand, has just $1,332,834 in career earnings so this winner’s check would almost equal the amount he’s previously won combined. Until today, Stefani might be best known for making an ace last year in the U.S. Open at Merion.
