Last week at Congressional, a Peter Hanson ace earned one woman a year’s worth of mortgage payments. This week at the Greenbrier, a Bud Cauley hole-in-one to walk-off the 18th hole made everyone in the surrounding crowd a little extra walking-around cash.

Aces are always fun on the PGA Tour, and lately they’ve become more rewarding for the fans.

Greenbrier is one of those rare venues that finishes with a par-3, and we’ve seen a good amount of drama from tee shots in the final Sunday pairings over the last few years in this event. This Sunday, the hole was measuring around 175 yards to a back-right pin and Cauley just lofted one right back at the flag. The ball took a couple hops, and nestled in softly for a perfect-looking ace.
And while Quicken Loans is going to continue to hand out a year’s worth of mortgage payments for every ace on Tour going forward, this one also earned everyone in the surrounding amphitheater crowd $100. It was the second ace of the day, George McNeil making one earlier on the 8th hole during a blistering front-nine 28.
Given the distance of the hole and the pin placement, there should be a few more close ones as the second half of the field finishes up. If there’s another ace, the cash for the crowd goes up.
