This is one way to start a major championship if you’re one of the 20 unknown and untested PGA of America club pros.
Johan Kok drains 97-foot putt on first ever PGA Championship hole
Johan Kok started his PGA Championship on the 10th hole, a 595-yard par-5, and managed to bomb his approach shot to the front edge of the green. It’s really not an eagle or two-shot hole for just about everyone in the field, but Kok was at least in the vicinity of the putting surface.
Kok had a chance at birdie, but needed an impressive lag putt from about 100 feet. That’s a dicey proposition, given this was his first ever putt in a major championship. So Kok just skipped the lag part and drained it for the opening eagle.
The PGA officially measured it at 97 feet, 4 inches. Much like the random qualifiers you get at the two Opens, these club pros sometimes deliver the best moments of the week at the PGA.
That’s the shot of the day so far, and should be the putt of the tournament.
