The first day of Olympic golf since 1904 went off without a hitch. Sure, there were times when it was flat. It’s just a 60-man field with no cut and some of the best players in the world are absent. That is going to happen -- hell, it happens even when all the best players are in attendance and the field is 156 deep, like at the majors. But the course played perfectly and looked beautiful, setting up and interesting test. There were actual fans on the grounds, which exceeded the low expectations. And some of the top names in the world are where you’d expect them -- back on the first page of a leaderboard.
Olympic golf 2016 live stream: How to watch Friday’s Round 2 online
Golf got off to a successful start in Rio with 54 more holes to go in this no-cut event.

Thanks to multiple live streams, viewers will able to watch the majority of the second round live online. NBC will provide a main stream that covers the round and begins at 6:30 a.m. ET, just before players are set to hit the course. Golf Channel will provide television coverage, but that coverage will also be available online via a simulcast stream. In addition to the main stream, there will also be a featured holes stream that follows Nos. 1, 17 and 18. That stream will allow viewers to watch the field tee off and finish off their rounds.
Henrik Stenson, arguably the hottest player in golf, sits in second place after an impressive 5-under 66 on Thursday. Stenson played late in the day, when the wind was up and the conditions were much tougher. His round could have been called the round of the day even though it was three shots worse than 18-hole leader Marcus Fraser, who went low with a 63 earlier in the day.
With everyone guaranteed 72 holes, no one is definitely out of it after just one round. But Americans like Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson will need to get a move on it on Friday. Fowler, in particular will need a strong round after tumbling near the bottom of the leaderboard with a 4-over 75 in the first round.
They’ll take to the Olympic golf course at Reserva de Tijuca alongside an array of wild animals that includes three-toed sloths, boa constrictors, and some 40-odd capybaras. First tee times are bright and early, and coverage starts at 6:30 a.m. on Friday.
With heavy hitters like Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, and Rory McIlroy sitting out the Olympics, the opportunity is there for a rising star to make his presence known on the international stage with the first gold medal awarded on the links in 112 years.
There will be multiple streams up and running by 6:30 a.m., right when that first tee time goes off No. 1. It’s the usual Golf Channel crew at a most unique and unusual event. Here are all your media options for the second round.
