True story: That “March Madness” term you hear so often this time of year actually got started long before the NCAA Tournament bracket started getting spread around offices across the country. Turns out the the phrase was first coined in reference to the Illinois High School Association tournament, starting back in the 1930s. Believe it or not, the Internet didn’t even exist back then.
March Madness Has Landed At SB Nation
↵And now, March Madness is coming to SB Nation. In partnership with the IHSA, we’re going to bring you results and recaps from 20 state basketball championships from around the country, starting on Saturday with two title games in Arizona.
↵We’ll also have some great stories to tell along the way, from writers like Adam Zagoria (when he’s not chasing down Carmelo Anthony rumors), who covers high school hoops and recruiting at his popular ZagsBlog; Mike Newman, a preps veteran who runs the popular baseball blog Scouting the Sally; and Todd Holcomb, a long-time Atlanta Journal-Constitution high schools scribe who was one of the founders of the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.
↵So welcome to what promises to be an exciting month and a promising venture. Madness never sounded so good.
