Wilkinson County (32-0), Georgia’s lone undefeated boys team, capped off a perfect season with a state championship victory over Terrell County (27-4) Saturday afternoonin the Class A final in Macon.
Wilkinson County Finishes Perfect Season Defeating Terrell County 75-68 For Class 1A Title
Vashon Jones led Wilkinson County, located in middle Georgia, with 27 points, including 19 in the fourth to stave off a Terrell County comeback.
Terrell County (27-4) was led by Terel Hall who contributed 19 points in the loss.
The win marks the team’s fifth state title since 1999 under head coach Aaron Geter and avenges a loss to Terrell County in last year’s quarterfinals - Wilkinson County’s only loss in two years (56-1 overall).
Terrell County, a South Georgia school, had previously beaten title favorite Whitefield County to ensure Atlanta area schools would not sweep the state championship tournament.
Prior to the loss, Terrell County had won nine consecutive games, falling just short of its first state championship since 1984.
