Sumner Academy defeated Ottawa 66-60 in the Kansas Class 4A basketball final Saturday after trailing 16-2 in the first quarter in Salina.

Benny Parker made a 3-point shot to cut the lead to 23-16 at the end of the first quarter, and Armand Brisbane’s 3-pointer forged a 26-26 tie. Deandre Arnold’s 3-pointer gave Sumner Academy the lead for good, 29-26.
Ottawa made only one field goal in the second quarter.
Parker’s 16 points led Sumner Academy (23-3), which successfully defended its title. Parker also had nine assists.
Sumner Academy, magnet school in Kansas City, has won five state titles since 1998.
