Behind 32 From Joel Haywood, Denver Lutheran Wins Class 2A Title
Heyward started the game strong posting 17 first half points resulting to a 10 point Dallas Lutheran lead at the half.
Lutheran-Parker was able to cut the lead to 42-39 in the fourth quarter behind 20 points from Jonny Foote, but an 8-0 run by Denver Lutheran put the game out of reach.
For Denver Lutheran, the 61-48 victory ends a title drought which lasted a quarter century.
Ironically, both schools will consolidate after the current school year meaning Denver Lutheran will not have the opportunity to defend its crown next season.
For Lutheran-Parker, the state championship appearance was the school’s first in any sport. However, combining the rosters of two championship game participants leaves the consolidated school in great shape to once again challenge for the title.
