Pennsylvania Class A Final: MCS Charter Cruises Past Lincoln Park 70-55

Behind a strong second-half push, Math, Civics & Sciences Charter of Philadelphia defeated Lincoln Park Performing Arts 70-55 to win the Pennsylvania Class A championship Friday at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center.

MCS Charter led only 33-29 at the half but outscored Lincoln Park 37-26 in the second half en route to a decisive victory.

The difference in the game was MCS’s 3-point shooting. MCS made six to just one from Lincoln Park, and that 15 points decided the game. The rest of the statistics were pretty evenly split between the two teams.

Jeremiah Worthem was the star of the day for MCS with 22 points and 12 boards. Warren Dogan added 18 points, and Tyreek Riddick chipped in 11 points, nine of them on 3-pointers.

Chaquille Pratt did his best to keep Lincoln Park in the game with 27 points and seven rebounds but missed on all six of his attempts from deep. Devontae Watson added a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

The fifteen-point victory capped off an MCS title run that didn’t include a win by fewer than 10 points. Constitution came the closest in their semi-final bout with MCS that ended in a 74-87 loss.

This was the first of four boys state finals in Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday.

In Class AAA Friday night action, Neumann-Goretti of Philadelphia (26-4), the only boys team with a chance at repeating, takes on Montour (23-7) , a suburban Pittsburgh school. For Montour, this is the school’s first-ever trip to a state final.
