Sunnyside Christian won its seventh state title in history Saturday as Steven Broersma scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds in a 55-50 victory over Neah Bay in the Class 1B final at Spokane Arena.

Trevor Wagenaar, one of Sunnyside’s top scorers, had an off night, missing 11 of 12 shots and scoring five points, but Broersma helped Sunnside control the inside. The Knights had the rebounding edge 41-32.
Broersma scored two baskets in the final 2:30 and made the clinching free throws with nine seconds left.
Neah Bay’s Drexler Doherty did everything he could to keep his team in the game, including scoring the first 14 points for the Red Devils and 17 of their first 25. He finished with 31.
It was Neah Bay’s deepest playoff run since 1986 and came under a first-year coach, Gerrad Brown.
