Andrew McCutchen brings “MVP” baseball back to the Playstation

Playstation’s MLB: The Show hit it big this year when they put (presumed) National League MVP Andrew McCutchen on the cover.

When Andrew McCutchen is named the National League's Most Valuable Player tonight (because, man, how crazy would it be if he was not!), there will be many people celebrating the Pittsburgh star's achievement. One group who will be celebrating alongside the Steel City fans is Sony Computer Entertainment, the publishers of the Playstation video game series MLB: The Show.

Remember this contest from last January?

MLB '13 The Show is in search of its next cover athlete and the Giants' catcher is going up against Matt Kemp, Ryan Braun, Andrew McCutchen, Bryce Harper, CC Sabathia, and Miguel Cabrera.

Fans can vote on MLB.com starting on January 7. Vote here.

The winner, after a week of intense Twitter voting, was Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen. He took to (what else) Twitter to thank his fans when the announcement was made:

And now he’s the National League MVP. Good job with the vote, guys!

For those wondering, this is only the second time in the life of the MLB: The Show series or the MLB 2K series (the two big names in baseball video games today) that the player gracing the cover of either game went on to win the MVP or Cy Young Award that same season. The last time it happened was in 2009, when MLB 2K9 cover boy Tim Lincecum won his second consecutive Cy Young Award.

Miguel Cabrera is already slated to be on the cover of MLB 14: The Show. Tigers fans have to be hoping that McCutchen has started a streak.
