When medical innovation saved a Little Leaguer

eBay item of the Day

In 1962, a 12-year old Little Leaguer named Everett Knowles tried to hop a freight train with disastrous results, severing his right arm when the jump went awry. Although it had never been tried before, a team of doctors attempted to reattach the limb. Incredibly, they were successful, and limb reattachments now seem routine fifty years later. Wire photos of Knowles are plentiful on eBay and many of them feature him with baseball equipment as a number of teams donated items to him. They all have the look of stills from a movie that was never made, as Knowles looks like he was sent over by Central Casting.
