I was saddened to hear that long-time Royals broadcaster Fred White had passed away. I was fortunate enough to hear White and his partner Denny Matthews quite a bit when I lived in Kansas and the highest praise I can give them is that they knew when to shut up. I’d be driving along with the game on the radio and would suddenly realize they hadn’t spoken in a couple of miles - and that would make me smile. Think about all the announcers you’ve heard who just couldn’t abide pauses and you’ll realize just how refreshing this was.
