Slapping butts for a new generation

USA TODAY Sports

I like how no one really talks about all the butt-slapping in baseball. There is far more butt-slapping in baseball than there is in, say, marketing. Or banking, retail, or education. There’s pretty much more butt-slapping in baseball than there is in any industry outside San Fernando Valley. And it makes no sense, yet we don’t really talk about it.

Too late. Because butt-slapping is so yesterday. Show everyone what the kids are doing these days, Troy Tulowitzki!

You laugh now, but after they do it six times every game, we’ll start ignoring this, too. Then the next round of surprise interactions will be ear-licking, and we’ll get used to that. Eventually every baseball game is going to look like the end of the human chess match in History of the World, and there isn’t a damned thing we can do about it.

Also of note: that camera was following Tulowitzki for a full minute before this shot. I appreciate his commitment, boldness, and follow-through.
