This is a tricky gray area.

Thearon W. Henderson

One more thing about that Jeff Nelson call ...

In case you’re not up to speed on l’affaire Nelson, go watch this. I’ll be here when you’re done.

Okay, here’s my question: Did Justin Grimm or Mitch Moreland have a duty to tell umpire Nelson that Grimm, not Moreland, caught the throw from second base? Or is it their job to nonchalantly walk back to the mound, hoping no one notices who’s holding the baseball?

Granted, it’s Nelson’s responsibility to get the call right, but do Grimm and Moreland have any responsibility here?

Here’s another one. Suppose your girlfriend picked out the perfect gift* for a friend’s birthday/housewarming/Star Trek: Voyager Series Finale Party. Just as you ring the doorbell, she sprints back to the car to grab her phone. Your friend opens the door and gushes about the gift and your generosity and thoughtfulness. But you had nothing to do with the gift, you’re just holding it. You didn’t even pay for it. You are a selfish clod. Do you tell your friend who really got the gift?

* Sandwich coupon.

I know what you’re thinking, These situations aren’t analogous, because your girlfriend will be along any second, and you’ll be found out, and everyone will know what kind of person you are.

The video of Grimm intercepting the ball is your girlfriend coming back while you’re taking credit for her present.

I don’t know, I’m just spitballin’ here. Are those even illegal, by the way?
