How many major-league players would you recognize, just walking down the street?
Matt Harvey asking New Yorkers about Matt Harvey

I watch baseball games every day for seven months, and here’s the list I came up with: Derek Jeter, CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortíz, R.A. Dickey, Prince Fielder, Eric Hosmer, Joe Mauer, Adam Dunn, Yu Darvish, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Jered Weaver, Raul Ibañez, Félix Hernández, Stephen Strasburg, Bryce Harper, Ryan Howard, Andrew McCutchen, David Wright, Ryan Braun, Brandon McCarthy, Zack Greinke, Roy Halladay, Pablo Sandoval, Tim Lincecum, and maybe Barry Zito.
Maybe those guys. Maybe a few more. But basically it’s just the guys who have been on TV a lot or have been around forever. There are a bunch of All-Stars who I couldn’t have picked out of a lineup before Monday, when I saw them all in their street clothes. Matt Harvey, for example.
Fortunately, this made me feel better:
Yes, there are Mets fans who wouldn’t know Matt Harvey if they stood next to him. Which shouldn’t be all that surprising, considering how little we’ve seen him, and how different players can look when not in uniform.
Still, it’s something to think about.
